Kadmium ist ein Schwermetall. Kadmium wird zum Beispiel in der Industrie verwendet und kommt in Zigarettenrauch vor.

Ein Metall oder eine metallische Verbindung kann den Körper auf verschiedene Weisen schädigen. Die Beschwerden hängen oft davon ab, auf welche Art man mit dem Metall in Kontakt gekommen ist. Zum Beispiel kann es zu Hautschäden kommen, wenn man Hautkontakt mit einem Metall hatte. Wenn man ein Metall mit der Nahrung aufnimmt oder Metall-Dämpfe einatmet, kann es zu Vergiftungen kommen.

Wenn man Kadmium einatmet, kann das eine Lungenentzündung oder andere Lungenkrankheiten verursachen. Nach Aufnahme mit der Nahrung sind unter anderem Erbrechen und Durchfall möglich. Bei länger andauernder Aufnahme kann es außerdem es zu Nieren-Schädigungen und Knochenschwund kommen.
