Neurological assessments: Examination of cerebrospinal fluid system: Measurement of intracranial pressure
The pressure in your skull has been measured.
Cerebrospinal fluid is a clear fluid that is formed in the brain. There are cavities with cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, around the brain and around the spinal cord. Among other things, the cerebrospinal fluid cushions the brain and spinal cord during knocks and also nourishes the brain cells.
The brain and the cerebrospinal fluid require adequate space inside the skull. The space is restricted by the hard cranial bone. There is a particular pressure inside the skull. You have had this pressure measured.
In an operation to measure the pressure, a small hole was drilled in your cranial bone. A tube was pushed through this into your cerebrospinal fluid. The tube was attached to a measuring device.
