Neurological assessments: Examination of cerebrospinal fluid system: Measurement of lumbar cerebrospinal fluid pressure
The pressure in your skull and your vertebral canal has been measured.
Cerebrospinal fluid is a clear fluid that is formed in the brain. There are cavities with cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, around the brain and around the spinal cord. Among other things, the cerebrospinal fluid cushions the brain and spinal cord during knocks and also nourishes the brain cells.
The brain and the cerebrospinal fluid require adequate space. The space is restricted by the hard cranial bone and the vertebral canal. The vertebral canal is part of the spinal column and is made up of the bones of the vertebral body. The spinal cord lies in the vertebral canal. There is a particular pressure inside the skull and the vertebral canal. You have had this pressure measured.
A needle has been inserted into your back, between your vertebral bodies, at lumbar spine level. A tube was attached to the needle to measure the pressure. The tube was attached to a measuring device.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
