Neurological assessments: Examination of cerebrospinal fluid system: Fontanelle puncture for cerebrospinal fluid collection
Your cerebrospinal fluid was tested.
Cerebrospinal fluid is a clear fluid that is formed in the brain. There are cavities with cerebrospinal fluid in the brain, around the brain and around the spinal cord. Among other things, the cerebrospinal fluid cushions the brain and spinal cord during knocks and also nourishes the brain cells.
Babies have places in their head where the skull bone has not yet grown together. These places are also known as fontanels. A needle has been inserted through the skin at one of these places into the cerebrospinal fluid. The needle is used to drop a tiny amount of cerebrospinal fluid into a test tube.
