Neurological assessments: Recording evoked potential: Long-latency auditory [CERA]

You have had certain nerve currents measured.

The nervous system includes all the nerves in the body, as well as the brain and the spinal cord. The nerves run from the brain and spinal cord into the body. They convey information in the body.

Information, such as certain external stimuli, is passed on and processed by nerve cells. In doing this, mild electrical currents occur in the nerve cells.

Some of these currents can be measured via the scalp. To take the measurements, metal plates are laid on the skin. The measurements involved the nerve currents being represented as lines or waves on a screen. When certain conditions are present, these lines and waves look different to usual.

In your case, certain nerve currents in the brain were measured while you heard clicking sounds. Nerves pass on the information from the ear to the brain, and it is processed in certain areas there. The measurements enable an assessment of how well information from the ear is getting to these areas of the brain.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides

Further information

Note

Your doctor will assist you with any health-related questions and explain the OPS code to you in a direct consultation if necessary.
