1-274.4:

Diagnostic cardiac catheterization: Transseptal left heart cardiac catheterization: Probing of ventricular septum

During an examination a temporary, artificial connection was made between the two ventricles of your heart.

The heart pumps blood through the body. Inside the heart are 4 chambers. There are 2 heart atria and 2 ventricles. Both heart atria and both ventricles are separated from each other by a partition.

A catheter has been used to examine your heart. A catheter is a thin tube. This tube is inserted into a blood vessel in the groin or arm, and pushed further in. Various instruments can be pushed at the front of the tube. The catheter was pushed into your right ventricle. From there, a wire was then pushed through the dividing wall into your left ventricle.

In this way, the inside of the heart can be examined, for example, and treatments may even be carried out.
