1-511.1:
Biopsy of nerve tissue, hypophysis, pineal gland by incision and craniotomy: Stereotactic brain biopsy: Basal ganglia
Very targeted tissue samples have been taken from your cerebrum.
The tissue samples have been taken from your basal ganglia. The brain is made up of several parts. The cerebrum is the largest part of the brain. This is where thinking, feeling and planning of movements takes place. The cerebrum is made up of an outer layer called the cerebral cortex and an inner layer known as white matter. The basal ganglia are in the cerebral cortex. They are important for controlling movements of the body.
The brain is surrounded by a protective shell of bone, known as the skull or cranium. To take the tissue samples from your basal ganglia, tools were inserted very precisely into the inside of your skull. Three-dimensional images of your head were produced for this purpose before the operation. A computer was then used to calculate exactly where the tissue samples were to be taken.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
