1-511.6:
Biopsy of nerve tissue, hypophysis, pineal gland by incision and craniotomy: Stereotactic brain biopsy: Cerebral meninges
Very targeted tissue samples have been taken from your meninges.
On the outside of the brain and spinal cord there are three thin meninges (linings). A tough meninx, the dura mater, is on the outside. Below that are two soft meninges.
The brain is surrounded by a protective shell of bone, known as the skull or cranium. To take the tissue samples from your meninges, tools were inserted very precisely into the inside of your skull. Three-dimensional images of your head were produced for this purpose before the operation. A computer was then used to calculate exactly where the tissue samples were to be taken.
