1-514.1:

Biopsy of nerve tissue, hypophysis, pineal gland by incision and craniotomy: Biopsy of hypophysis and pineal gland by incision: Pineal gland, transseptal transsphenoidal

Tissue samples have been taken from your pineal gland.

The pineal gland is in the brain. The pineal gland secretes messenger substances (hormones) that regulate things like the sleep-wake cycle of the body.

The brain is surrounded by a protective shell of bone, known as the skull or cranium. The lower part of the cranial bone is called the base of the skull. The brain rests on these bones from the inside. The base of the skull also includes, among other things, the bones behind the eyes and nose. The pineal gland is directly above a bone in the base of the skull. To take the tissue samples, the bone usually has to be cut into. To do this, tools are inserted through the nose.
