1-515.1:
Biopsy of nerve tissue, hypophysis, pineal gland by incision and craniotomy: Stereotactic biopsy of hypophysis and pineal gland: Pineal gland
Very targeted tissue samples have been taken from your pineal gland.
The pineal gland is in the brain. The pineal gland secretes messenger substances (hormones) that regulate things like the sleep-wake cycle of the body.
To take the tissue samples, tools were inserted very precisely into the inside of your head. Three-dimensional images of your head were produced for this purpose before the operation. A computer was then used to calculate exactly where the tissue samples were to be taken.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
