Diagnostic endoscopy of upper respiratory tract: Diagnostic pharyngoscopy: Direct: With flexible endoscope (under sedation) in sleeping state [sleep endoscopy]
Your throat was examined while you were asleep.
The throat begins behind the mouth and nose. The throat connects the mouth and nose with the windpipe (trachea) and gullet (oesophagus).
Drugs were used to put you to sleep. To then carry out the examination, a thin tube is inserted through the nose or mouth. A camera is attached to the end of the tube. This camera then sends images to a screen during the examination. It can then be seen whether the tissue is healthy or changed.
When the patient is asleep during the examination, the throat can be observed when they are breathing in and out. In this way, any constrictions can be assessed and potential treatments planned.
