Diagnostic tracheobronchoscopy: Diagnostic tracheobronchoscopy: With flexible ultra-thin instrument: With alveoloscopy
Your airways were examined from the inside.
When we breathe, the air gets into the body via the respiratory tract. The respiratory tract can be divided into the upper and the lower respiratory tracts. The nose and throat form part of the respiratory tract. The lower respiratory tract begins at the larynx in the throat. It includes the windpipe and the bronchia.
The test involved inserting a flexible tube into your airways. This is normally done via the nose or mouth. In your case the test was carried out using a particularly thin tube. Images of the airways are sent out via the tube. In this way, the inside of the airways can be studied and assessed for any changes.
The alveoli in certain areas of your lungs have been examined. In the lungs, the airways branch out like a tree does, and they end in the alveoli. In the alveoli, oxygen is absorbed into the blood and carbon dioxide is released to be breathed out.
