1-658:
Diagnostic endoscopy of lower digestive tract: (Ileo-)colonoscopy using motorized spiral endoscopy
You have had a colonoscopy.
The intestines are made up of the small intestine and the large intestine or colon. Most of the nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine. The large intestine (colon) is where water and salt are withdrawn from the stool. The last segment of the large intestine (colon) is the rectum. Stool then leaves the body through the anus.
The test involves inserting a tube via the anus. A camera is attached to the tube. This camera sends images to a screen. In this way, the intestine can be viewed from inside, and changes in the membrane can be searched for. There is also a soft spiral at the front of the tube. A motor makes the spiral rotate. This enables the tube to get past bottlenecks. This enables the tube to be pushed deeply into the intestine. In this way the small intestine can also be examined.
Additional indicator
