Diagnostic endoscopy of female genital organs: Diagnostic colposcopy
You have had an examination on your vagina.
A microscope has been used to examine your vagina and the mouth of your womb. To do this, the microscope is positioned at the entrance to the vagina. It can be used to study the tissue in magnified form.
The vagina is tubular and leads from the outside to the uterus. There is a canal in the cervix that connects the vagina to the inside of the uterus. The orifice at the end of this canal is called the mouth of the womb (ostium uteri). The mouth of the womb is visible during an internal examination of the vagina. The vaginal walls are close together. The examination first involves using a vaginal speculum to separate the vaginal walls. A vaginal speculum is a tube-shaped instrument with two movable sides. A light microscope can then be used to study the tissue in magnified form.
