Pulmonary function tests: Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) test
You have had the nitric oxide content in your exhaled air measured.
Nitric oxide is a gas that occurs in very small amounts in the air and the body. In the body it is produced in the airways, for instance. Certain illnesses affect how much nitric oxide is produced in the airways. When you breathe out, the nitric oxide gets from the airways into the exhaled air. So the exhaled air can be measured to see how much nitric oxide has been produced in the airways.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
