Metabolic function tests: Liver function test with intravenously injected C13-labeled substrate

Your liver function was examined using a breath test.

The liver is an important organ on the top right of the abdomen. For example, it helps with blood clotting and detoxifying the body. Nutrients from food are processed in the liver.

The test involved administering a specially marked substance via a blood vessel. This substance is gradually processed in the liver. In the process, specially marked carbon dioxide is separated off. The marked carbon dioxide then passes to the lungs and is exhaled. Over a set period of time, measurements are taken to see how much of this marked carbon dioxide is in the exhaled air.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
