1-852:
Other diagnostic puncture and aspiration: Diagnostic amniocentesis
You have had amniotic fluid removed and examined.
When the pregnancy begins, the amniotic sac containing the amniotic fluid develops in the womb. The amniotic sac surrounds the child. The amniotic fluid can be removed with a needle that is inserted through the abdominal wall. During this process, an ultrasound device is used to check the exact position of the needle and the child in the stomach. The amniotic fluid taken can then be examined in the laboratory.
