1-853.2:
Other diagnostic puncture and aspiration: Diagnostic (percutaneous) puncture and aspiration of abdominal cavity: Needle biopsy of ascitic fluid
Fluid has been taken with a needle from your abdomen.
The abdominal organs are located in the abdomen. The abdomen is lined from within with a membrane. The membrane is made up of individual cells. These cells normally release a small amount of fluid into the abdomen. Thanks to this fluid, the organs can move and slide past each other. There can be various reasons why too much fluid accumulates around the abdominal organs.
When fluid from the abdomen is collected it can then be examined in the laboratory.
