Sometimes vital organs no longer work properly. There can be a variety of reasons for that. The affected people can be helped with a properly functioning replacement organ. The appropriate organ or tissue can be donated by other people. The donor organ or donor tissue has to be removed surgically.
Your liver is no longer working properly. The liver is an important organ on the top right of the abdomen. For example, it helps with blood clotting and detoxifying the body. Nutrients from food are processed in the liver.
A questionnaire and various tests are usually used to assess whether a person is suitable for a donor liver. There are many different factors involved, such as one’s state of health.
There is usually a very limited number of donor organs available. So there is a waiting list for the organ concerned. You have been put on the waiting list for a donor liver or you continue to be on this list.
