Medical evaluation for transplant: Medical evaluation and decision on indication for transplant: Re-evaluation with patient removed from organ transplantation waiting list: Kidney transplantation

An assessment has been made as to whether you should be given a kidney from another person.

Sometimes vital organs no longer work properly. There can be a variety of reasons for that. The affected people can be helped with a properly functioning replacement organ. The appropriate organ or tissue can be donated by other people. The donor organ or donor tissue has to be removed surgically.

Your kidneys are no longer working correctly. There are normally 2 kidneys in the body. They filter blood and create urine. They thus help to detoxify the body. Furthermore, the kidneys regulate the blood pressure and salt content in the blood, among other things.

A questionnaire and various tests are usually used to assess whether a person is suitable for a donor kidney. There are many different factors involved, such as one’s state of health.

There is usually a very limited number of donor organs available. So there is a waiting list for the organ concerned. You have been taken off the waiting list for a donor kidney. There may be health reasons, for example, why one can no longer be given a donor kidney.
