Medical evaluation for transplant: Medical evaluation and decision on indication for transplant: Re-evaluation with patient removed from organ transplantation waiting list: Heart transplant

An assessment has been made as to whether you should be given a heart from another person.

Sometimes vital organs no longer work properly. There can be a variety of reasons for that. The affected people can be helped with a properly functioning replacement organ. The appropriate organ or tissue can be donated by other people. The donor organ or donor tissue has to be removed surgically.

Your heart is no longer working properly. The heart pumps blood through the body. In the process, the blood flows through blood vessels. The blood supplies all areas of the body with oxygen and nutrients.

A questionnaire and various tests are usually used to assess whether a person is suitable for a donor heart. There are many different factors involved, such as one’s state of health.

There is usually a very limited number of donor organs available. So there is a waiting list for the organ concerned. You have been taken off the waiting list for a donor heart. There may be health reasons, for example, why one can no longer be given a donor heart.
