Other diagnostic measures: Ex-vivo cell culture system for pre-therapeutic chemosensitivity assay: With evaluation of metabolism

An investigation was undertaken to find out how susceptible cancer cells from your body are to certain chemotherapy drugs.

Chemotherapy is treatment with special drugs. It is usually used with cancers. The tissue in the body is made up of cells. With cancer, the cells multiply uncontrollably, which leads to a malignant neoplasm (abnormal growth of tissue) developing. The cancer cells can destroy the healthy tissue and spread throughout the body. Chemotherapy aims to prevent cancer cells from multiplying and to kill them off. However, cancer cells may be less or not at all susceptible to some chemotherapy drugs. The chemotherapy may then not work as well or not at all.

The investigation involved cancer cells being removed from your body. A test can then be done in a laboratory to find out how the cancer cells respond to different chemotherapy drugs.

Additional indicator
