Contrast-enhanced projection radiography: Voiding cystourethrography

Your bladder and your urethra have been X-rayed. This involved using a contrast agent.

The bladder sits low down in the abdomen and collects the urine. The urine is produced in the two kidneys. The urine flows from the kidneys into the bladder via the ureters. When you pass water, the urine flows from the bladder via the urethra and out. Your bladder and your urethra were X-rayed while you were passing water.

A contrast agent is a fluid. The contrast agent is intended to help to differentiate the tissues more clearly from one another in the X‑ray examination.
