Optical laser scanning techniques: Confocal microscopy: Digestive tract, endoscopic
Your digestive organs have been examined with a special microscope.
Various organs are required for digesting food. The digestive organs include the gullet, the stomach, the pancreas, and the intestines, for example.
A tube was inserted into your body in order to examine your digestive organs. A special microscope was inserted via this tube.
A microscope can be used to make visible and examine very small things, such as cells. In your case, a special microscope that works with laser light was used. The light is sent into the tissue that is to be examined. The tissue layers reflect the light in different ways. The reflected light is measured. A computer derives an image from the values measured.
This special microscope can be used to detect each individual cell of a tissue very precisely. This is how the cells of your digestive organs were examined for abnormal changes. It is usually not necessary to take tissue samples for this examination.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
