Optical laser scanning techniques: Confocal microscopy: Other
You were examined with a special microscope.
A microscope can be used to make visible and examine very small things, such as cells. In your case, a special microscope that works with laser light was used. The light is sent into the tissue that is to be examined. The tissue layers reflect the light in different ways. The reflected light is measured. A computer derives an image from the values measured.
This special microscope can be used to detect each individual cell of a tissue very precisely. This makes it possible for the cells to be examined for abnormal changes. It is usually not necessary to take tissue samples for this examination.
