Scintigraphy: Partial-body scintigraphy to determine location for diagnostic purposes: Partial-body scintigraphy of heart with receptor-targeted substances
You have had a gamma scan of your heart.
The gamma scan involved injecting special materials into one of your blood vessels. The materials then spread through your body via your blood. This type of special material adheres to certain cells in the heart.
The materials give off weak radiation for a certain time. A special camera can be used to make the radiation visible and in this way to identify how the materials accumulate in the heart.
A gamma scan enables, for example, an assessment to be made of how certain cells in the heart are distributed.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
