Scintigraphy: Partial-body scintigraphy to determine location for diagnostic purposes: Other

You have had a gamma scan done on a certain part of your body.

The gamma scan involved injecting special materials into one of your blood vessels. The materials then spread through your body via your blood. The materials accumulate more or less heavily in different areas. This depends, for example, on how certain cells are distributed or how active they are.

The materials give off weak radiation for a certain time. A special camera can be used to make the radiation visible and in this way to identify how the materials accumulate in a particular part of the body.

A gamma scan enables, for example, an assessment to be made of how certain cells in the body are distributed.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides

Further information

Note

Your doctor will assist you with any health-related questions and explain the OPS code to you in a direct consultation if necessary.
