Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT): Single photon emission computed tomography of the brain: Other
You have had a SPECT scan of your brain.
The examination involved injecting special materials into one of your blood vessels. The materials accumulate in particular areas of the brain, depending on their properties. How much of the material accumulates in an area also depends on how active the cells are in the location concerned. The materials give off weak radiation for a certain time. A special camera can be used to make visible where in the body the materials have accumulated. During the scan, the special camera circulates around the body. This produces images with a spatial effect.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
