3-901:
Other scanning techniques: Electrical impedance spectroscopy of the skin
A special device was used to examine your skin changes for skin cancer.
The skin is composed of many individual skin cells. Individual skin cells can change and become skin cancer cells. These cells then multiply uncontrollably. which leads to a malignant neoplasm (abnormal growth of tissue) developing. It can be difficult to safely differentiate the skin cancer from other skin changes simply by sight.
The examination involves placing a small device in the area of a questionable skin change. The device measures electrical properties of the skin cells. Normal skin cells and skin cancer cells differ in terms of their electrical properties. The measurements can be used to deduce whether the skin cells looked at are normal.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
