3-902:
Other scanning techniques: Radio-frequency spectroscopy of breast tissue
The breast cancer surgery involved examining the tissue that was removed from your breast with a special device.
The breast is made up of fatty tissue, connective tissue and the mammary gland. Milk is produced in the mammary gland during and after pregnancy so that the child can be fed.
The tissue in the body is made up of cells. With cancer, the cells multiply uncontrollably, which leads to a malignant neoplasm (abnormal growth of tissue) developing.
The breast cancer surgery involved removing the cancerous tissue. The edges of the removed tissue were then examined using a special device. Healthy breast cells and cancer cells have different electrical properties. The special device can distinguish healthy breast cells and cancer cells based on their electrical properties. This is an attempt to find out whether all the cancerous tissue has been removed.
