5-010.13:
Incision (trepanation), excision and destruction on the skull, brain and meninges: Opening the skull via the calvarium: Craniectomy (calvarium): Temporal
In order to operate on the inside of your skull, we have cut through the side of your cranial bones.
The skull surrounds the brain. It consists of a number of individual bones that are tightly attached to each other.
This type of operation often involves removing a piece of the cranial bone. This piece can be replaced at the end of the operation. Sometimes, though, it is not replaced at all or only replaced later.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
