You had an operation to close the dura mater on top of your head.

On the outside of the brain and spinal cord there are three thin meninges (linings). A tough meninx, the dura mater, is on the outside. Below that are two soft meninges.

When someone has an opening in their dura mater, an operation can close it. Artificial material or the body’s own tissue can be used to close the opening.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
