The nervous system includes all the nerves in the body, as well as the brain and the spinal cord. The nerves run from the brain and spinal cord into the body. They convey information in the body. The information in the brain is transmitted via electrical signals.

A brain pacemaker usually consists of a device with one or more wires coming from it. A device like can be implanted in the head or somewhere else in the body. The device is also sometimes worn outside the body.

The device converts ambient sounds to electricity. This electricity is sent via wires to different parts of the brain as an electrical signal. The aim is to favorably affect the activity in the brain areas for hearing. The aim is that the person can use the device to hear sounds.
