Operations on thyroid gland and parathyroid gland: Other operations on thyroid gland and parathyroid gland: Excision of a tongue root thyroid gland: Transcervical, without resection of the medial tongue bone

You have had an operation on the tissue of your thyroid gland.

The thyroid gland is a small organ in the neck below the larynx. It is made up of two sides that lie to the right and left of the trachea. The two sides are connected to each other by a bridge of thyroid gland tissue.

In some people, parts of their thyroid gland tissue are also located on the root of their tongue. The root of the tongue is the rear, immobile, part of the tongue. You have had the thyroid gland tissue removed from the root of your tongue via an incision in your throat.
