Operations on the lens: Extracapsular cataract extraction [ECCE]: Lens nucleus expression and/or aspiration via sclerocorneal approach: With placement of a capsule-fixated posterior chamber lens, monofocal intraocular lens

The lens of your eye was surgically replaced by an artificial lens.

The lens of the eye is located behind the pupil. The pupil is a round hole in the iris. The lens of the eye is transparent, and lens-shaped like a magnifying glass. It lies in a fixed, transparent capsule made of connective tissue.

The operation involved, firstly, making an incision at the edge of your cornea. The cornea is located at the front of the eye. It is transparent and curved. The curvature focuses light in the eye. This is vital to be able to see clearly. Once the capsule of the lens of your eye was open, your lens was washed out with a fluid. You then had an artificial lens inserted.

The capsule of your own lens remained in your eye. Your artificial lens is now inside this capsule. The artificial lens enables you to see clearly either at a distance or close up. So you usually need glasses so that you can see clearly at the relevant distance.
