Your detached retina was lying on the choroid below.
The choroid is the middle layer in the casing of the eye. It lies between the sclera and the retina. There are lots of blood vessels in this layer. The choroid supplies oxygen and nutrients to the retina inside it. The vitreous body in the eye consists of a transparent, gel-type fluid. It is surrounded by a thin membrane and fills the entire rear part of the eye. This is how it gives the eye its shape.
Your retina had become fully or partly detached from your choroid. The treatment reconnected your retina to your choroid. To do this, your vitreous body was first removed. Your eye was then filled with a gas.
