5-156.3:
Operations on retina, choroidea and vitreous body: Other operations on the retina: Retinal rotation
You have had an operation that involved rotating the retina a little.
The retina is a layer inside the eye. It contains a lot of sensory cells that can perceive light. There are sensory cells for colors and sensory cells for light and dark. The sensory cells pass the information on to the nerve cells in the optic nerve. The retina consists of several layers of cells.
In the middle area of the retina there is a place where one’s vision is particularly clear. This area is the yellow spot. With certain conditions, some of the cells in the yellow spot change.
Part of your retina has been rotated so that there are more healthy retinal cells in the yellow spot. The aim of this is to improve your vision.
