Operations on the paranasal sinuses: Operations on multiple paranasal sinuses: Multiple paranasal sinuses, endonasal: With exposure of the skull base (endonasal pansinus surgery)
You have had an operation on your sinuses.
The sinuses are cavities in the skull that are filled with air. They make the head lighter and influence the sound of the voice. Air is moistened and warmed up in the sinuses. The sinuses have an inner lining of a moist and smooth membrane. This inner membrane is also called the mucous membrane. The mucous membrane produces fluid. The sinuses are connected to the nose via an opening. As a result, fluid can run out of the sinuses into the nose. There are paranasal sinuses in the upper jaw, the forehead and behind the nose.
You have had an operation on some paranasal sinuses. This type of operation might, for example, enlarge the entrances to the paranasal sinuses. Thickened mucous membrane or accumulated mucous may also be removed from the paranasal sinuses.
To do the operation, a camera is inserted into the nose. The camera sends images to a screen. Small tools such as forceps or scissors are also inserted into the nose to do the surgery.
