You have been given donor lungs.
The lungs consist of a right-hand and a left-hand lung. These lungs, in turn, consist of various pulmonary lobes. There are 3 pulmonary lobes in the right-hand lung. There are 2 pulmonary lobes in the left-hand lung.
The operation first involved opening up your chest. Your lungs were then completely removed. The donor lungs were then inserted. The donor lungs are usually then re-attached to the bronchi and the various blood vessels. The bronchi end in the trachea and in the lungs they branch like the crown of a tree. The air breathed in and out of the lungs passes through the bronchi.
