Pathologically changed tissue has been removed from your chest. A part of your lungs and a part of your pericardium were also removed and a blood vessel was replaced by a synthetic blood vessel.

The tissue concerned was located in the space between your lungs. We have 2 lungs. Various organs lie between the lungs, such as the heart, trachea (windpipe) and oesophagus (gullet). These organs are surrounded by connective tissue.

The pericardium is a layer of connective tissue surrounding the heart. There is some fluid in the pericardium (heart sac). So the heart is able to move inside this lining.
