Operations on chest wall, pleura, mediastinum and diaphragm: Pleurodesis [obliteration of the pleural space]: By poudrage, open surgical

The space around your lungs has been surgically sealed.

The lungs are surrounded by a smooth membrane. A smooth membrane like this is also located inside the ribs. There is a narrow cavity between the two membranes. This cavity is filled with some fluid.

Certain conditions can cause too much fluid or air to build up in the space around the lungs. The aim of sealing the gap around the lungs is to prevent this.

The operation involved opening up your chest. Your treatment involved putting a special powder into the space.
