Operations on chest wall, pleura, mediastinum and diaphragm: Other surgery on the thorax: Removal of osteosynthesis material

Metal has been removed from your ribcage.

This metal was inserted into you in a previous operation in order to treat a broken bone in your ribcage. That operation involved using metal to join the bone segments together. The aim was to make your sternum grow back together properly. The sternum is a flat bone at the front of the chest. The ribs and the two collarbones are attached to the sternum.
