5-357.8:
Operations on cardiac valves and septa and vessels near the heart: Operations for congenital vascular anomalies: Collateral vessels, unifocalization
You had surgery which connected blood vessels in your chest to one another.
The chest is where the heart and lungs are located. The heart pumps blood through blood vessels to the lungs. There the blood is enriched with oxygen and carried back to the heart again via other blood vessels. The heart then pumps the oxygen-rich blood to the body.
Before you were born, some blood vessels in your chest developed in an unusual way. As a result, the blood is unable to be pumped from your heart to your lungs in the normal way. To enable the blood to get from the heart to the lungs more easily, blood vessels in your chest have been connected to one another.
Additional indicator
If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.
- L: Left
- R: Right
- B: Both sides
