5-374.6:

Rhythm surgery and other operations on heart and pericardium: Reconstruction of pericardium and heart: Closure of an acquired ventricular septal defect (e.g. after heart attack)

You have had a hole closed in your septum between your two ventricles.

The heart pumps blood through the body. Inside the heart are 4 chambers. There are 2 heart atria and 2 ventricles. Both heart atria and both ventricles are separated from each other by a partition.

A hole may occur in the septum if the blood supply in the septum deteriorates, for example.

The operation involved opening up your chest. A heart-lung machine may be used during this type of surgery. During surgery the task of a heart-lung machine is to replace the heart and lung functions. Amongst other things, the heart-lung machine enriches the blood with oxygen and pumps it around the body.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
  • R: Right
  • B: Both sides
