Rhythm surgery and other operations on heart and pericardium: Implantation of a heart pacemaker, defibrillator and event recorder: Isolated sensor implantation, open surgical: Epithoracic
You have had a sensor surgically implanted in your heart.
The heart's electrical activity causes the heart muscle to contract. It begins at a site in your right atrium. Initially the electrical activity spreads to both atria. The electrical activity then flows on via a sort of cable to the ventricles.
Various technical devices can be implanted into the heart, for example to measure its electrical activity. These devices usually consist of a box that is placed beneath the skin, and one or more cables. At the end of these cables are sensors. These sensors can sense the heart’s electrical activity and the heartbeat.
