Rhythm surgery and other operations on heart and pericardium: Implantation of a heart pacemaker, defibrillator and event recorder: Wireless stimulation system: Transmitter
You have had a special heart pacemaker implanted.
The heart pumps blood through the body. Inside the heart are 4 chambers. There are 2 heart atria and 2 ventricles. Both heart atria and both ventricles are separated from each other by a partition.
Your special heart pacemaker is designed differently to other heart pacemakers. It consists of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter is implanted beneath the skin in the chest and it sends ultrasound waves to the receiver. The receiver is located in the left ventricle of the heart. The receiver can send electric currents to the heart and thus trigger the heartbeat. The aim of the heart pacemaker is to make the heartbeat regular. You have had the transmitter implanted.
