5-379.3:
Rhythm surgery and other operations on heart and pericardium: Other operations on heart and pericardium: Removal of heart tissue post mortal (for transplantation)
Tissue was removed from the heart after death for an organ donation.
Sometimes vital organs no longer work properly. There can be a variety of reasons for that. The affected people can be helped with a properly functioning replacement organ. The appropriate organ or tissue can be donated by other people. You need surgery to remove the donor organ or donor tissue.
Certain organs can only be donated by people who have died because life is impossible without those organs. These include the heart or the lungs, for example. People can specify before they die whether they wish to donate organs. They can also specify which organs they wish to donate. If they have not specified anything, their next of kin make those decisions after they die.
