Rhythm surgery and other operations on heart and pericardium: Other operations on heart and pericardium: Cardiomyoplasty

Your heart has been surgically wrapped.

The heart pumps blood through the body. In the process, the blood flows through blood vessels. The blood supplies all areas of the body with oxygen and nutrients.

When someone has heart failure, the heart can be wrapped in a piece of back muscle or a synthetic mesh. The further the weakened heart muscle expands, the harder it is for the heart to pump blood around the body. The aim of the wrapping is to prevent the weakened heart muscle from expanding.

Additional indicator

If necessary, additional letters are appended to OPS codes to indicate which side of the body is affected.

  • L: Left
