Your heart has been surgically wrapped with a piece of muscle. You have also had a pacemaker implanted for the piece of muscle.

The heart pumps blood through the body. In the process, the blood flows through blood vessels. The blood supplies all areas of the body with oxygen and nutrients.

When someone has heart failure, the heart can be wrapped in a piece of back muscle. The further the weakened heart muscle expands, the harder it is for the heart to pump blood around the body. The aim of the wrapping is to prevent the weakened heart muscle from expanding. The pacemaker is an electrical device. This device stimulates the piece of muscle to contract regularly. This provides extra help to the heart when it is pumping.
