Rhythm surgery and other operations on heart and pericardium: Open surgical implantation and removal of cannulas for the use of an extracorporeal (heart and) lung assist system with gas exchange: Open surgical implantation of cannulas in the heart and/or central blood vessels: 2 cannulas

Some tubes have been inserted into your heart or one of your major blood vessels for lung replacement treatment.

A device for lung replacement treatment can assist or replace the function of the lungs. In a device like this the blood is enriched with oxygen and freed of carbon dioxide outside the body. To achieve this, the blood flows continuously through a tube to the device and through another tube back to the body again.

You have had an operation to insert the tubes. The operation involved opening up your chest.
